ASOLATE training center (ATC)
Over 200 vulnerable youth have received training from ASOLATE Training Centres. Students graduate better placed to start businesses that meet the local community’s demand for products and services.
ATC Karenge
The first ASOLATE Training Center opened in 2005 in Karenge to offer child heads of household living on the streets training in one of four trades: (1) soldering and electricty, (2) soap, candle, and paint-making; (3) sewing, and; (4) project management.
A
TC Kirwa
In 2007 ASOLATE set up a satellite training center in Kirwa, near the Tanzanian border, in response to an influx of Rwandan refugees expelled from Tanzania.
SUPPORT for AIDS orphans
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has resulted in hundreds of thousands of orphans and exacerbated poverty. ASOLATE pays school fees and buys school supplies for AIDS orphans and children living in single-parent and other vulnerable households.
ASOLATE Stove Project
With traditional wood-burning stoves and open fires having deleterious effects on the environment, and posing health risks to mothers and children exposed to the smoke, new coal-burning stoves are becoming the most popular, healthy, and environmentally friendly option for cooking. ASOLATE is currently seeking funding to start a stove manufacturing project, where youth will be trained to make coal-burning stoves, and the products will be sold, ensuring the sustainability of the project.
FUTURE projects
ASOLATE has developed several other projects. Their implementation is dependant on funding.
Support for HIV/AIDS affected households
The support for AIDS orphans project will be expanded to help families affected by HIV/AIDS through: revolving micro-credit loans for income generating projects; sewing training and education about HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention and treatment; home care visits and counselling; and support for HIV/AIDS-infected parents to create memory books for their children.
