Asolate Prepares to Launch the Stove Project

Stove TechniciansTechnciansAsolate has built a workshop, purchased tools, and gathered 15 technicians in preparation to launch the stove project. Seleman has been hard at work, putting the finishing touches on the house that will serve as the storefront, hold offices, and provide a community care space.  Twenty vulnerable youth will be trained by the technicians, to make coal-burning stoves, providing them with skills and employment. Coal is the optimal cooking option, as it produces less smoke than traditional wood-burning stoves, which is dangerous for the respiratory health of mothers and children continuously exposed. This project will promote the use of coal manufactured from organic waste, which will reduce the demand on trees, and save the time and energy that many people spend gathering wood and brush. These stoves will be sold inexpensively, to allow impoverished and single-parent families to have access to a healthier and more environmentally friendly cooking option.

Asolate Buys Health Insurance for 180 Vulnerable People

PPVVThrough Asolate’s PPVV (Projet d’Apprui aux Persones Vivant avec le VIH), and partnership with Vuza Impanda Ministries, Asolate recently purchased health insurance for 180 individuals living in the Kicukiro District of Kigali. Every member of the program is either living with HIV/AIDS, widowed, or orphaned by the illness. Health insurance covers 90% of all medical costs, including medication, and therefore is life changing for a vulnerable person to have. Vuza Impanda Ministries is a cooperative, which Asolate continues to do advocacy for, by helping the members market their beautiful traditional crafts, raise money to sponsor the children to go to school, and help them live sustainably.
